Scenic Drive with the Top Down
Bolzano to Cortina d’Ampezzo
Great Dolomite Road
If you have a couple days to spend testing out your Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet, then you’ll want to head to the popular Great Dolomite Road. It is a little over 95 km long and connects Bolzano to Cortina d’Ampezzo. During the route, you’ll want to put the top down to fully appreciate the majestic mountainous views and breathe in the fresh, crisp air.
Some sections of the drive are quite steep and narrow, but your Porsche will handle those hairpin bends with ease. You’ll also want to be sure to stop at many of the panoramic points so you can fully appreciate the Dolomites located all around you.
In Nova Levante, you’ll be met with a spectacular view of Catinaccio massif. Then, in Lago di Carezza, you can stretch your legs and take a break at the lake. If you want to do some sightseeing along the way, stop in the village of Andraz where you can view the Andraz castle museum. This is a popular stop for travelers and well worth the extra time. Once in Passo Falzarego, you can enjoy a cable car ride that allows you an opportunity to climb to Rifugio Lagazuoi. This is the best panoramic view you’ll find along the route. This is also the location of previous battles between the Austrian Alpine and Italian soldiers during the Great War.
The cuisine found in Cortina d’Ampezzo is heavily influenced by the borders around it including Tyrole and Apsburg. Most of the dishes are going to have German names and many tourists enjoy trying the chenedi or knodel. If you spend the night, be sure to try the breakfast consisting of pestariei, which are pieces of flour that are cooked in salted milk.
Wherever the road leads you in Italy you can be sure that driving a luxury cabriolet is the best way to enjoy the city attractions and the mountain air.
